Home Automation Systems

Why do all home automation systems suck? It would be relatively easy to make a universal system that was modular (with just code) that could control anything... So I don't get why all the "big players" are so proprietary.

Maybe I need to start a home automation company, because the guts (software) which is the expensive part is really the easiest part. Weird.

    Aman Bro’ - yea, you would think these guys would get their act togather. As you know, I use X10 which has been around a long time, but is doggier than all get-out and generally sucks - you’d think after a couple of decades there’d be something decent out there - anxious to see/hear what you end up finding out.
