Dell Pricing Fluctuations

Can I just tell everyone how annoying Dell's price fluctuations are? I'm trying to purchase a blade chassis and 10 loaded blades. One day the blades are $66,030, then they are $105,400, then $66,030 again, now they are $88,040 (all pricing for identically configured blades of course). Finally I got pissed and called Dell, and their response was, "Well, we change our pricing every week."

Gee, really??

What, do you have to roll the dice and try to guess when they will be a "normal" price again and buy them in that 15 second window? Really f'ing annoying...

    Try being a government entity that has to go through a purchase order system that takes roughly 2-3 weeks. You put in a purchase order and the price has changed 2-3 times since!

    I finally moved to buying from HP instead of Dell because they will guarantee pricing for 30 days. If the pricing goes down during that time frame they will give you the reduced price. The HP stuff has been getting better reliability ratings lately anyway.

    I feel your pain, but I have found a solution. Setup a business account (takes five minutes), when you configure a system save it as an e-quote and that quote will be good for 30 days. I know, it’s a pain but a least it is a workaround.

    Yeah I’ve found Dell’s pricing to be sketch at best. For large businesses that buy desktops and especially laptops you can save 15-25% by buying from the Small-Medium business section. I feel that the hardware is actually better along with cheaper.

    setup a business account.. hehe.. that’s a good one. Post how you do that. Because I have tried for 2 years to get one.

    I order on the website and get a different account number for just about every order I make. Then when I call to place an order I get jerked around to 5 or 6 reps until someone takes pitty on me and takes my order.

    I get different pricing that appears to change hour to hour. Better yet is I am a reseller.. real cool trying to explain to a customer, Oh they just upped the price $400 on each server.

    Do yourself a favor and buy HP… They make better servers anyway. :)
