Map Of Digg Traffic

At the beginning of last November, I had the idea to do an automatic geolocation system for blog/website owners called Geo Visitors.

This blog got quite a bit of traffic in the last 24 hours (because of a front-page digg). Anyway, check out what the maps look like for visitors to this blog in the last 24 hours... It's crazy how much traffic digg can bring you in a short amount of time. Thankfully my quick little caching mechanism I did for WordPress last time I had something in digg, held up (last time WordPress was thrashing my servers because of the traffic).

The World

Europe

United States

New York area

I am truly amazed at the number of Digg users in New York! It is like a swarmp of bee hives situated near the coast.

What about Canada *tear* Actually it looks like my area (Southern Ontario) is about as packed as NY… of course My area is 1/3 of the provice where NY is a City, so it’s all in scale of course =P

  7. Hector Torvisque Says:

@Keith: The fact that most visitors come from the UK and US must surely only be interesting to the simplest of minds. Digg is an English language website - and guess what? They speak French is France, Spanish in Spain and English in the UK and US!

  8. epeters208 Says:

It’s mainly the US and UK because they are two english speaking countries.

  11. scotsboyuk » The digg Effect Says:

[…] The digg effect is when a website is linked to on digg’s frontpage and receives a huge amount of traffic within a short space of time. Small sites can crash under the weight of traffic that is directed at them, ironically being put offline by the very people who want to see the site. One chap who has had a couple of stories featured on digg made this blog entry about the effect his latest story featured on digg had on his site. He includes maps of the global traffic dispersal pattern that I found rather interesting. […]
